Dr Leonidas Mamas MD, FEBOG

IMG_5640 - ΑντίγραφοDr Leonidas Mamas was born and raised in Karystos, Evia, where he completed school. He studied medicine at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and he graduated in 1971. He performed his military duty as a doctor for the Hellenic Navy at the Navy Hospital of Athens. He did his OB/GYN specialty training in Marika Iliadi (Elena) maternity hospital, from where he received his specialty in 1978. He remained in Marika Iliadi as a trained OB/GYN until 1981 and as a Registrar from 1982 until 1986. In 1981 and 1982 he worked at Hammersmith Hospital in London. He performed his MD at the Epidemiological department of the University of Athens under Professon Trichopoulos. He completed his MD in 1985.

Since 1986 Dr Mamas is a practicing OB/GYN in the private sector. He began working on assisted reproduction in 1986 in the first Centers that started in the field in Greece. He was in charge of the sperm lab in Mitera Maternity hospital between 1993 and 1996 and since 1999 he is the Director of Neogenesis IVF Centre.

He has published numerous studies in Greek and foreign scientific journals and chapters in foreign books. He has been General Secretary of the Union of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Greece and a member of the committee of the Medical Council of Athens. He is a member of the European Society of Human Fertilisation and Embryology (ESHRE), the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and a member of the committee of the Hellenic Society for doctors in assisted reproduction. In 1995 he received the diploma of Excellency in Gunecology and Obstetrics by the European Board of Gynecology and Obstetrics (EBGO). In 2003 he was accredited to perform ultrasound examination by the Greek Ministry of Health. Finally, he holds a patent diploma by the Industrial Property Organisation for his innovative cervical clamp used in the intrauterine tuboperitoneal sperm insemination (DNB Cervical clamp).
